NBA Season Preview: 76ers

Card Ladder
Oct 18, 20215 min read

A very tumultuous off-season for the 76ers, the endless drama which will continue into the season. Despite being the #1 seed last season, just like any Doc Rivers led team the playoffs seem to be a disaster. Despite the turmoil, the 76ers are far from a post-Cleveland LeBron situation. They still have all-NBA Joel Embiid, borderline all-star Tobias Harris, and a lot of other solid players.

Starting 5 (based off teams current depth chart)

Point Guard: Ben Simmons

2020 Season Stats: 14 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists

Despite a good statistical season in addition to being the runner up for defensive player of the year. Ben’s season will forever be remembered by his playoff performances. The infamous photo of Simmons passing up an open dunk to pass the ball for a contested Thybulle layup has become somewhat metaphorical. Simmons card market does not reflect the endless memes and bashing he has endured this entire offseason. With his market up over 9% this quarter, it shows people still believe in him and his lack of offense is not a concern.

Shooting Guard: Seth Curry

2020 Season Stats: 12 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists

A light in darkness, Curry was brilliant the entire playoffs last season. Averaging 19 points per game in the playoffs, outside of Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid it was clear Curry had become the clearcut 3rd option and even 2 at times. Expect Curry to play better than he did last regular season but do not expect 19 points per game across an entire season as thats when you get into borderline allstar range.

Small Forward: Danny Green

2020 Season Stats: 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists

Jack of all trades, solid at some… Danny Green over the last decade has established himself as an extremely solid 2 way wing player. An inconsistent three point shot at times, Green can tend to be the 76ers X-factor at times. When Green is on, it's hard for the 76ers to lose but when he's off, it is an uphill battle. Despite Danny starting, expect Thybulle to get a majority of the minutes at the small forward position as Thybulle has developed into an elite defender.

Power Forward: Tobias Harris

2020 Season Stats: 20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists

Ole Reliable aka Tobias Harris is one of those players who you can always count on but will never be considered a superstar. Call it the Gordon Hayward purgatory zone, maybe a 1-2 all-star but never a superstar despite being compensated like one. Similar to Curry, Tobias elevated his game in the playoffs averaging 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. Expect Tobias next year to do what he's done so well all the years prior, 18-20 points per game with efficient scoring and a great ability to spread the floor.
